How Can I Grow My Hair Faster? How To Make Your Hair Healthy and Shiny.
How can I grow my hair faster?
In my first blog post, I discussed the importance of scalp health. Maintaining a healthy scalp is the foundation for beautiful and healthy hair.
And now, it's time to take the next step and learn to care for our hair length.
Understanding hair porosity
Knowing your hair porosity is like a cheat sheet for haircare, and it can help you start caring for your hair correctly.
It will help you determine what exactly you need to use on your hair. Also, my tips below will probably not work if you don’t understand your hair porosity. I know I sound like a broken record, but I ignored this for so long that I don’t want others to make the same mistake, lol.
If you don’t know how to find out, check my hair porosity post and get one step closer to beautiful and healthy hair.
The Protein-Moisture Balance Test
This step is crucial if you are still deciding what products (masks, conditioners, leave-ins, etc.) to use, as you must balance moisture and protein in your hair.
This is how I do it before every wash:
Take one hair strand: A clean, dry strand from your head.
Hold the hair strand between your thumb and index finger.
Gently pull on the hair strand from both ends.
Now, you need to observe your hair's reaction.
If the hair stretches out a lot before breaking, your hair probably needs more protein
Get protein-rich treatments or products, such as protein masks or conditioners.
If the hair breaks immediately, your hair needs more moisture.
Look for moisturising treatments or products; deep-moisture masks do wonders for my hair.
If the hair stretches slightly and bounces back, that’s good; you’re balancing your hair successfully, yay!
Continue doing what you are doing!

Pre-poo hair treatment with oil
Before shampooing, apply oil to our hair as a pre-poo treatment to prepare hair for the wash.
Applying oil before shampooing creates a protective barrier that minimises moisture loss and reduces damage caused by shampoos.
There are two hair oil types that you should be aware of:
Penetrating (Moisturising) oils - capable of entering your hair shaft and their primary use is to help lock moisture inside it.
Sealing oils - stay on top of your hair to keep all the moisture in.
We will use moisturising oils (coconut, olive, avocado, etc.) for pre-poo treatment.
To know which oil is the best for your hair type, please check my hair porosity blog post to be sure you are going in the right direction. :)
Pre-poo Hair Treatment with Coconut Oil - My Personal Experience
I have been oiling my hair for a few months now. In my last blog, I mentioned that I cut my hair too short in December 2023, and I want to grow it back as fast as nature allows me, lol.
To improve growth, I started implementing hair oiling before every wash. I have been using coconut oil as its benefits are perfect for my high-porosity hair.
My hair recovers much faster with oil than with any other store-bought product. If you want to transform your hair as fast as possible - oil your hair. <3
I usually keep it between 2 and 6 hours. You can also have the oil overnight, but I don’t do that - I have trouble falling asleep with stuff wrapped around my head.
How do I properly wash my hair?
This step is super easy, and you may think it doesn't make a difference, but as most shampoos are super drying, we should avoid over-drying our hair if it is unnecessary!
The way to do that is to shampoo only our scalp and let the shampoo clean the rest of the hair when we rinse it. That way, we will still thoroughly clean the hair and scalp, but not dry out hair ends.
My favourite way is to wash my hair with shampoos infused with rosemary oil (strengthening or cleansing). My current favourite is the one from Mielle.
They help me grow my hair much faster and maintain a healthy scalp without weighing down my hair or making it oily.
I also double-cleanse my hair because of pre-pooing. The first wash is mainly to wash off as much oil as possible, and the second one is more focused on scalp health, where I add rosemary oil and use the massager to stimulate hair growth.
Choose the right products.
This is related to the Protein-Moisture balance test. You must incorporate moisture and protein products to balance both in your hair.
I always have both moisturising and protein products with me. I use them differently every wash day as my hair needs change occasionally.
I have high-porosity hair (huge gaps and holes in the cuticle, allowing a lot of moisture to enter), which means my hair loves and needs protein as it can easily become overly moisturised.
How often to trim hair for maximum growth?
Hair trimming alone is good; however, trimming does not necessarily mean that your hair will start growing much faster if you are still exposed to many chemicals, heat, and other things that dry out and damage it.
To maximise your hair growth, make a proper routine for your hair and a few treatments, and if you still have split ends, cut that out so you can start fresh.
Conclusion
Less is more. Little changes in the routine and learning your hair type can go a long way and save you so much money and time.
In a few weeks, I will share my hair update with before-and-after pictures so you can see how my hair is improving and how these tips are golden.
Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you like it and will join me on a journey to healthier hair!
